Spearfishing Information

LOCATION:  Southwest Florida, Gulf of Mexico, just 45 minutes from Ft. Myers International Airport (RSW).   

DIVING CONDITIONS:  The waters in this area are warm, ranging between 68 and 86 Fahrenheit (20-30 Celsius).  Offshore visibility is 30-100 feet (10-30 meters), and inshore the visibility variable from 5-50 feet, most spots can be speared at depths 20-40 feet but many other areas range in the 30 to 100 feet. Spots range from artificial reefs and wrecks, to rock ledges, springs, towers, hard bottom holes and coral ranges.
Note:  in the USA it is legal to spearfish using SCUBA tanks, and such gear is available for rental, if needed.

DIFFICULTY LEVEL:  This destination is great for all level of spearos, from shallow shooting of easy species, to expert spearing of large amberjack, huge cobia, big grouper, etc.  We run from 2 miles to 50 miles offshore depending on time of year and request.

SPECIES ENCOUNTERED:  From the inshore waters you will encounter snook, jacks, flounder, cobia, snapper, grouper, sheep head, hogfish, goliath grouper, and many other types of reef fish. Offshore you will find large schools of amberjack, permit, king mackerel, grouper, snapper, barracuda, cobia, hogfish, false albacore, the occasional blackfin tuna, spiny and shovel nose lobster can be found .

BOAT & ACCOMODATIONS:  Lodging can be arraigned from the luxurious Ritz Carlton Beach Resort to less fancy Hotels.  We offer 2 vessels to dive from. Our 28 foot Dusky with twin 175 Mercury Optimax Outboards,  and our 25 foot Wellcraft with single 225 Suzuki Outboard.

ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES:  Surfing, fishing, shelling, dolphin, sunset and eco tours, jet ski rentals, airboat rides, parasailing, and many other activities are all available.

BEST TIME TO VISIT:  The Best time to visit is from November  to April  when the waters are clearer with temps around 65-72 degrees Fahrenheit. From March to October the waters warm up from 75-86 degrees Fahrenheit and still visibility can range from 5-100 feet offering great to marginal dive conditions.

COST /LENGTH OF STAY:  This is a low-cost destination.  No minimum stay required.
