LOCATION: Cape Town, South Africa, Closest Airport is Cape Town International. Travel time to airport 30min. diving in Atlantic and Indian Ocean.
DIVING CONDITIONS: The water varies from a chilly 14deg C to 23deg C. (60F to 78F). Offshore viz is around 15-20m and inshore about 10m. Inshore diving depth varies from 10 to 30m and offshore (tuna spearing) we dive in 500m of water but spear the fish from the surface down to about 20m. Diving can take place from the shore for good reef fish and up to 40miles out for tuna. We have a very wide range of diving options suitable for absolute beginners to really competitive divers. Spearfishing in SA is freediving only. Guns are not limited, but spearfishermen need a local permit which we can obtain. All our boat captains and crew are spearfishermen themselves.
SPECIES ENCOUNTERED: Reef diving offers around 15 easily targetable species ranging is size from a kilo or two to up to 20kg. Musselcarcker, Red Roman, Red Stumpnose, Garrick, Yellowtail, Galjoen, Steenbras, Belman, Rock cods, etc are all available on inshore dives. Up to 10 miles out. The tuna are speared in the Cape Canyon area, up 40 miles out in a true blue water environment. Yellowfin tuna are prolific and we can virtually guarantee any diver fish of around 150lb – the average size of our fish is around 120lb, but fish of 200lb are not uncommon. Species encountered on blue water dives are Yellowfin tuna, Longfin tuna (Albacore), Dorado, yellowtail, and occasional black and striped marlin. Cape Point is quite possible the best tuna hunting area in the world for quantity and quality. Season for tuna is Oct to Dec and April to June.
