LOCATION: Island Of Santa Maria Azores – Portugal.
Pick up at the Santa Maria International Airport with a 10-15 min travel to the Hotel.
DIVING CONDITIONS: The waters depending on the time of year can go from 17-25º Celsius (22-25 during summer July-September), offshore visibility is over 30 meters, inshore visibility depends on the current and weather, but can go from 15 to 30 meters also. Spots depend on the clients since inshore spearfishing to offshore pinnacles from 5 to 100 Meters deep and 25 nm out, most range from 15 to 25 meters being 2-3 nm out.
DIFFICULTY LEVEL: There are all kinds of conditions for all levels of divers depending on the target species and level of the diver, as said before the spearfishing can be done close to shore, on pinnacles 2-3 nm out or on pinnacles 25-30nm out (pure blue water spearfishing, in depths ranging from 118- 130meters).
SPECIES ENCOUNTERED: Trevally, amberjack, barracuda, bluefish, tuna, marlin, wahoo are all common on the island; some of them will have specific months in which they come by. Close to shore parrot fish, bluefish, brown grouper, brim and many other smaller species are quit common.
BOAT & ACCOMODATIONS: The boat is a 7.4 RIB with twin 115Hp Suzuki's. Accommodation varies according to hotel/guest house/ or tourist houses on the island, depending on the client preferences. All of them will not stay more than 20min by car from the harbour.
ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES: Surfing, fishing, hiking and horseback riding are all available, boat tours, and many other thnigs may be reserved according to clients preferences and availability.
BEST TIME TO VISIT: From June 1 to the end of September.
