Sitting on the coast of the Andaman Sea, the bays and beaches located here are among the best anywhere in S.E.Asia, with the defining feature of the famous limestone rock formations rising up from the sea and the white sand beaches. Set amidst this tropical paradise is a fishing & diving adventure of a lifetime, coupled with rich cultural, gastronomical and historical offerings that only Thailand can offer!

Spearfishing Information

DIVING CONDITIONS:  The waters in this area are warm, ranging between 68 and 85 Fahrenheit.  Offshore visibility is 8 to 20+ meters. Inshore at the local islands, the visibility is also good, but more unpredictable in the rainy season (May - October).  Most spots can be speared at depths between 2 to 30 meters – The waters vary extensively, offering good diving for every level of hunter.  Bluewater spearfishing is also an option in the offshore reefs and islands.  The hunting grounds range from near-shore islands/reefs to 60 kilometers offshore at all the Southern Provinces.

SPECIES ENCOUNTERED:  At the inshore reefs/islands, good sized Grouper, Barracudas, Red Snapper, Trevally, Coral Trout, Spanish, Kings and Queens, etc. can be taken.  .
At the outer islands, the pinnacles or in the bluewater spots located offshore, species such as Grouper, Dogtooth (to med. size), Milkfish, Spanish Macs, big Snapper, G.T.s, Barracuda, Sailfish, Cobia, small Marlin, can be targeted.

To see pictures of these fish, please use the English name for species here.

BOAT & ACCOMODATIONS:  There are wooden longtail boats (ALL LOCATIONS) with outboard engines, capable of carrying parties up to 8 and a sportsfishing boat (18m long, with diesel inboard – PHUKET ONLY) for larger parties/better comfort/combined angling/spearing trips, as well as a  small, fast semi-inflatable rib (ALL LOCATIONS) for the budget-conscious, solo spearo (c/w driver/guide/dive buddy). All are available for spearfishing.

Accommodation to suit all tastes/budgets can be arranged; from 5-star luxury resorts to home-stay style, traditional Thai bamboo bungalows directly on a tranquil, private beach (thoughtfully run by my Thai sister and her family).  Amenities here include large bed, mosquito nets, fan, running water and home-cooked delicious, local food (3x per day, if required) and bungalows start from $10 (US) per night. You may arrive as a stranger, but you’ll soon feel like part of the family and you’ll leave as good friends.

ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES:  So much to see and do in this area for your ‘rest’ days from spearing and for all the family: fishing, rock climbing, hiking (Krabi Province is famous for its wonderful geology and limestone mountain formations), site seeing at the many temples, natural hot-water springs and caves, island tours, kayaking, bamboo rafting, elephant trekking, horseback riding, are all available. Good night life and restaurants.
